Mapleton township is located in the northwestern part of Wellington county in southwestern Ontario. It is bordered along its eastern and northern boundary by the Wellington County townships of Centre Wellington, North Wellington, and Minto; along its northwestern and western boundary by the Perth County townships of North Perth and Perth East; and along its southern boundary by the Region of Waterloo townships of Wellesley and Woolwich. The town of Drayton with a population of approximately 2,000 is the largest community in the township and is situated practically at its centre. Other smaller communities include Alma, Bosworth, Glen Allan, Goldstone, Kumpfville, Hollen, Lebanon, Moorefield, Parker, Rothsay, Spruce Green, Stirton, Trecastle, Winfield, and Wyandot.  

 

Mapleton township is a relatively new political entity, having been formed two decades ago by an amalgamation of the townships of Maryborough and Perth on January 1, 1999.

 



Population and Demographics


As of November 2018 the population in Mapleton is listed as 10,586. Since 2011 the township has had a population increase of 597 persons which is just shy of 6% growth.  

 

Of the current population 51% is male, 49% is female.

 

There are 3,148 private residential dwelling buildings in Mapleton of whch 90% are single detached homes, 4% are semi-detached, 4% are apartments, 2% are townhomes, and 1% are movable homes. 92% of the homes in Mapleton are owner occupied; 8% are tenant occupied.

 

Looking now at household marital status, 68% are married or in a common law relationship, 25% are single, 3% are separated or divorced, and 4% are other. 

 

Looking at household family status, 42% are married/common-law with children, 4% are single with children.

 

Mapleton's age distribution is as follows:

  • 0 - 9:  17%
  • 10 - 14:  8%
  • 15 - 19:  8%
  • 20 - 29:  15%
  • 30 - 44:  17%
  • 45 - 54:  12%
  • 55 - 64:  12%
  • 65 - 74:  7%
  • 75+:  4%

 



Employment/Occupation


65% of the total population in Mapleton is employed.  Of these the dominant profession categories are:

#1: trades, transport, equipment operators and related occupations; and

#2: management occupations.  

In both of these categories FARMING and support for farming are important to both of these catagories. 

 

The highest education levels reached for Mapleton's population is as follows:

  • 12% - University 
  • 15% - College
  • 25% - Highschool
  • 48% - Other

 

 

 



Mapleton Schools and Education


Families in Mapleton Township are blessed with a variety of educational options for their children. In addition to four main public grade schools scattered through the township, there are two parochial schools, one pre-school, and three other private christian schools. There is also access to a network of Catholic schools through the Wellington Catholic District School Board.  

 

While there are no high schools located within the Mapleton Township boundary, there is one public high school and at least one christian high school that provide bus transportation to their respective nearby locations.
